Jiayuguan is where our adventure in the desert ends. Due to the expiring visa we have to take a train and escape to Hong Kong.

Near Jiayuguan it is possible to visit the first pillar of the Great Chinese Wall. Of course it is a well known tourist attraction and the entrance ticket is quite expensive. So we decide just to enjoy the crowd of tourist wondering around the archeological site.

To escape to Hong Kong we have to catch a 36 hours train. Unfortunately bicycles can not travel with us, they have to be shipped through another special train that eventually will arrive together with ours!

After 36 hours we are finally in Guangzhou, our first huge Chinese city. Since bicycles will arrive the morning after we decide to spend the night here, together with other thousands of people.

Getting out of Guangzhou is not that easy. The city is surrounded by thousands of channels all connected by highway bridges. After a long cycle we manage to reach a small port where passengers and bikes and take a small ship and reach the other end of the channel.

Finding a camping spot around Guangzhou is quite difficult, the population density is very high. This nice family let us sleep under the roof of their hut. Humidity and mosquitos didn't let us sleep properly!

To reach Hong Kong we took a boat from Nansha. Collecting information on the ferry port is as hard as climbing the 7 highest passes of the world!

As Guangzhou, Hong Kong is not accessible by bicycle. There is just a long channel connecting Hong Kong Island with the New Territories. But luckily it is possible to load the bicycle on the famous Star Ferries.
