In 2006, World Bicycle Relief began work with a USAID-funded consortium called RAPIDS: Reaching HIV/AIDS Affected People with Integrated Development and Support.
This program provided 23,000 bicycles to volunteer healthcare workers caring for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as children orphaned by the disease. In 2012, we partnered with Specialized Bicycles and International Medical Corp to provide bicycles for peer-to-peer educators working to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, improve quality of life for people affected by the disease, and address malnutrition among children and pregnant women in rural Kenya.
